Mental Authority

Core ConceptType Related

Mental Authority is the conventional name for the decision process of a Projector whose Definition is entirely at or above the Throat Center, with no defined Center below the Throat. It is also called Environmental or Sounding-Board Authority.

Despite the name, the Mind does not become an Inner Authority. These Projectors have no consistent body-based authority signal. Their extensive Openness instead makes the quality of the environment and the people within it essential to clear processing.

Clarity develops by discussing a recognized invitation in a suitable environment and hearing one’s own perspective spoken aloud. A trusted listener provides presence rather than advice: they do not supply the answer, interpret the voice, or take over the decision. The Projector listens for what remains coherent as they speak and for how the environment affects that process.

Mental Authority must therefore be distinguished from Outer Authority, which is the mind’s capacity to communicate observations for others. It also remains subject to the Projector’s Strategy of waiting for recognition and invitation.
